JUNE 5: DELTA BOROUGH 56th MUNICIPALITY TO IMPLEMENT CURBSIDE RECYCLING. The York County Solid Waste Authority announces Delta Borough will implement a weekly curbside recycling program for its residents.
APRIL 7: TIME TO RID YOUR HOME OF HOUSEHOLD HAZARDOUS WASTE. The York County Solid Waste Authority will hold a Household Hazardous Waste Collection Program on Saturday, May 3 from 9 AM to 1 PM at the Dover Township Municipal Building.

1: AUTHORITY ANNOUNCES EARLY "EARTH DAY" CELEBRATION AT
INDIAN STEPS MUSEUM. The
Authority, in conjunction with
MARCH 12: RECYCLE YOUR OUTDATED ELECTRONICS. On April 5, you can help divert tons of mercury, copper, chromium and lead from the waste stream. Recycle your outdated electronics at the Authority’s Management Center parking lot from 9 AM to 2 PM.

10: CELEBRATE EARTH DAY WITH A LOW-COST COMPOST BIN. Celebrate
Earth Day on April 22nd by buying a low-cost backyard compost
bin from the York County Solid Waste Authority.

FEB 28: HATE ROADSIDE LITTER? HERE'S HOW TO MAKE IT DISAPPEAR. In celebration of Earth Day (April 22), and in conjunction with The Great Pennsylvania Clean Up, the York County Solid Waste Authority is offering a FREE litter disposal program March 29 through May 31, 2008.

DEC. 19: RECYCLE YOUR CHRISTMAS TREE. The York County Solid Waste Authority is conducting a free Christmas tree recycling program for all York County residents December 26, 2007 through January 31, 2008.
DEC. 14: TOUR SCHOLARSHIPS AWARDED FOR 2008. The York County Solid Waste Authority announces the recipients of the 2008 Tour Scholarship Program. Ten schools and approximately 800 students will participate.
NOV. 12: RECYCLING CONNECTS OLD PHONE BOOKS WITH NEW LINE OF WORK. This year's phone book recycling program netted 69.4 tons of phone books.
OCT. 10: PUPPET SHOW ASSEMBLY PROGRAM CELEBRATES "AMERICA RECYCLES DAY". To promote recycling and celebrate “America Recycles Day” (November 15), the Authority is sponsoring puppet show recycling programs in 17 York County Elementary Schools.
SEPT. 25: BIGGER BINS EQUAL 71 PERCENT INCREASE IN RECYCLING. Since September 2006, New Freedom Borough residents have been participating in a year-long pilot program aimed at determining whether larger recycling bins result in an increase in residential recycling. The results are in and Borough residents have increased the amount of recyclable materials collected in the borough’s curbside program by 71 percent.
SEPT. 20 : YORK COUNTY SOLID WASTE AUTHORITY APPROVES 2008 BUDGET WITH NO INCREASE IN THE COST FOR WASTE DISPOSAL. The York County Solid Waste Authority has approved its budget for fiscal 2008. The tip fee (cost for disposal) at the York County Resource Recovery Center for 2008 will remain at $56 per ton.

The York County Solid Waste Authority will hold a Household Hazardous Waste Collection Program on Saturday, October 6 from 9AM to 1PM at the Authority's Management Center parking lot located at 2700 Blackbridge Road in Manchester Township.
AUG. 27: RECYCLE YOUR OLD PHONE BOOKS NOW THROUGH OCTOBER 19. The York County Solid Waste Authority kicks off its 15th annual phone book recycling program on Monday, August 27. Residents and businesses can recycle their old phone books through October 19.
JULY 20: HOUSEHOLD HAZARDOUS WASTE COLLECTION CAPTURES HARMFUL HOUSEHOLD PRODUCTS. More than 180 households participated in the York County Solid Waste Authority’s Household Hazardous Waste Collection Program held May 5, 2007.

JULY 19: DOVER BOROUGH STARTS CURBSIDE RECYCLING. Dover Borough has implemented a weekly curbside recycling program for its residents.

FOOD DRIVE COLLECTS 1.5 TONS AND $910 IN DONATIONS FOR FOOD BANK. The
Authority’s community service project aimed at restocking the shelves at
the York County Food Bank has resulted in the collection of 3,060 pounds
of food and $910 in donations.

8: EPA ACCEPTS RESOURCE RECOVERY CENTER/MONTENAY YORK INTO PERFORMANCE
TRACK PROGRAM. The
FEB 22: USEPA REMOVES YORK COUNTY SANITARY LANDFILL FROM NATIONAL PRIORITIES LIST. The United States Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA) has removed the York County Sanitary Landfill from the National Priorities List, stating that cleanup measures instituted by the York County Solid Waste Authority have been effective in reducing groundwater contamination and protecting human health and the environment.
FEB 2: GRANT PROGRAM INVITES RESEARCH PROPOSALS ON BENEFICIAL COMMERCIAL REUSE OF MUNICIPAL WASTE COMBUSTION ASH. The York County Solid Waste Authority announces a grant program offering funding of up to $250,000 for research/development proposals aimed at identifying viable non-traditional commercial uses for municipal waste combustion ash from the York County Resource Recovery Center. |
