JAN. 11: 2010 TOUR SCHOLARSHIPS ANNOUNCED.  The York County Solid Waste Authority has chosen the recipients of the 2010 Tour Scholarship Program.  Nine schools and nearly 800 students will participate in 2010.

DEC. 17: RECYCLE YOUR CHRISTMAS TREE.  The York County Solid Waste Authority is conducting a free Christmas tree recycling program for all York County residents December 26, 2009 through January 31, 2010.

 

DEC. 8: AUTHORITY ANNOUNCES STAFF APPOINTMENT.  The York County Solid Waste Authority recently appointed Lauren Washburn to the position of Recycling Coordinator.

 

NOV. 9: RECYCLING CONNECTS OLD PHONE BOOKS WITH NEW LINE OF WORK. This year's phone book recycling program netted 70 tons of phone books. 

 

OCT. 10: PUPPET SHOW ASSEMBLY PROGRAM CELEBRATES "AMERICA RECYCLES DAY".  To promote recycling and celebrate “America Recycles Day” (November 15), the Authority is sponsoring puppet show recycling programs in 18 York County Elementary Schools. 

 

OCT. 6: AUTHORITY ANNOUNCES STAFF APPOINTMENT.  The York County Solid Waste Authority recently appointed Mary Beth Tibbs to the position of Technical Reporting Specialist.

 

SEPT. 17: YORK COUNTY SOLID WASTE AUTHORITY APPROVES 2010 BUDGET WITH NO INCREASE IN THE COST FOR WASTE DISPOSAL. The York County Solid Waste Authority has approved its budget for fiscal 2010. The tip fee (cost for disposal) at the York County Resource Recovery Center for 2010 will remain at $56 per ton.

 

SEPT 14: YORK COUNTY RECYCLING RATE FOR 2008.  York County’s recycling rate for 2008 is 32.6. percent. 

 

AUG. 20: COVANTA REPLACES VEOLIA ES AS OPERATOR OF THE YORK COUNTY RESOURCE RECOVERY CENTER.  Covanta Holding Corporation has assumed responsibility for operating the York County Resource Recovery Center as of August 18, 2009.  As previously announced, Covanta has agreed to acquire most of Veolia Environmental Services’ North American waste-to-energy business.

 

AUG. 27: RECYCLE YOUR OLD PHONE BOOKS NOW THROUGH OCTOBER 29.  The York County Solid Waste Authority has kicked off its 17th annual phone book recycling program.  Residents and businesses can recycle their old phone books, magazines and catalogs now through October 29. 

 

JUNE 15: HOUSEHOLD HAZARDOUS WASTE COLLECTION NETS 9.8 TONS.  The York County Solid Waste Authority’s recent Household Hazardous Waste Collection Program netted 9.8 tons of household hazardous waste

 

JUNE 9: Authority To Kick Off Ongoing Electronics RecyclingStarting Saturday, July 18, 2009 the Authority will conduct electronics recycling programs the third Saturday of every month from 9AM to 1PM at its Yard Waste Transfer Facility located off of Flour Mill Road in Manchester Township . 

 

MAY 21: EXPANSION OF THE YORK COUNTY RESOURCE RECOVERY CENTER DELAYED.  The board of the York County Solid Waste Authority has voted to delay the expansion of the York County Resource Recovery Center for an anticipated period of three to seven years. 

 

MARCH 2: HATE ROADSIDE LITTER?   MAKE IT DISAPPEAR ALL YEAR.  Make Earth Day happen every day!  To celebrate Earth Day and to promote a cleaner environment, the York County Solid Waste Authority is offering a FREE litter disposal program starting April 18 and continuing throughout the year. 

 

JAN. 27:  E-CYCLING NETS 75 TONS.  More than 760 residents participated in the Authority’s January 10 electronics collection program, netting 75 tons of electronic gadgets for recycling.

 

JAN. 22: AUTHORITY ELECTS OFFICERS FOR 2009.  The York County Solid Waste Authority elected officers and approved annual appointments for 2009.

 

JAN. 6: HOPEWELL TOWNSHIP STARTS CURBSIDE RECYCLING.  Hopewell Township recently implemented a curbside recycling program for its residents becoming the 58th York County municipality to initiate a curbside recycling program.
