About the York County Solid Waste Authority
Our Mission: facilitate responsible solid waste management.
The York County Solid Waste Authority (YCSWA) was established in 1971 by the York County board of commissioners. The Authority uses an integrated system of waste management to manage York County's household waste that incorporates waste reduction, reuse, recycling and waste-to-energy. As a municipal authority, the YCSWA operates as an entity separate from the county and is self-sufficient through its two revenue streams. Those revenue streams include the cost for disposal of waste at the York County Resource Recovery Center and the sale of electricity generated by the Resource Recovery Center. The Authority's annual operating budget is approximately $43 Million.

The YCSWA currently employs 26 people in four divisions: Engineering and Operations, Administrative, Recycling and Planning and Community Services. The YCSWA owns the York County Resource Recovery Center, the now-closed York County Sanitary Landfill (which has been recycled into a recreation complex and wildlife habitat), a Yard Waste Transfer Facility, a Recycling Drop-off Center and an Education Center.
The YCSWA is an Equal Opportunity Employer
