Household Appliances

What Types of Household Appliances Are Accepted at the Resource Recovery Center:

Items containing refrigerants (such as Freon) including refrigerators, freezers, air conditioners and dehumidifiers, are accepted at the York County Resource Recovery Center (RRC).  State regulations require that metal items containing refrigerants must be disposed of at a facility that can recover the refrigerant from the appliance.  The Authority has a contract with a company to recover refrigerants from appliances.

Stoves, dishwashers and water heaters and other types of large primarily metal appliances cannot be processed at the RRC and therefore should NOT be placed out with your regular garbage:  Large amounts of metal items do not burn and have the potential to damage equipment at the York County Resource Recovery Center.

Household Appliance Disposal Alternatives:

Donate usable appliances to a community group.

Take unusable appliances to a scrap metal recycling center.  Some may pay you market value for your metal.
