ENVIROTHON
The York County Solid Waste Authority is a sponsor of the York County Envirothon. The Envirothon is a comprehensive, multi-media, interdisciplinary environmental education experience. Students in grades three through 12 compete in a team format within their own grade levels and are tested on their knowledge of aquatics, forestry, soils and wildlife.
The goal of the Envirothon is to help students become responsible environmental stewards. Through study materials provided, students gain knowledge of the earth's ecological systems and environmental concepts and develop skills to recognize and resolve human impacts on the environment. Every year, hundreds of York County students participate in the competitions. At the senior high level, the winning team goes on to compete at the state level for the chance to represent Pennsylvania at the national competition. The competitions are held at Rudy County Park.
The events for 2012 are as follows:
- Senior High: April 24
- Middle School: May 1
- 5th & 6th Grade: May 2
- 3rd & 4th Grade: May 8
