The York County Solid Waste Authority has chosen the recipients of the 2012 Tour Scholarship Program. Ten schools and nearly 700 students will participate in 2012.
The Tour Scholarship Program is offered by the Authority to local schools and pays the cost of a bus and a driver needed for classes to take a field trip to the York County Resource Recovery Center and Education Center. In return, scholarship participants complete an activity or project on an aspect of solid waste management such as recycling or litter prevention.
The Tour Scholarship awardees for 2012 are: Clearview Elementary (Hanover)- Amy Gotwals, Grade 3; Dover Elementary-Tina Linburg, Grade 2; Kralltown Elementary-Deb Wirth, Grade 2; LJ Macaluso Elementary- Jeremy Kaufman, Grade 5; Paradise Elementary-Kathy Gross, Grade 3; Shrewsbury Elementary-Audra Myers, Grade 4; Southern Elementary-Sue Thomas, Grade 4; St. Joseph’s School Dallastown- Nicole Koplitz, Grade 4; Stony Brook Elementary- Mary Lehman, Grade 3 and Weigelstown Elementary-Regina Wagman, Grade 2.
This is the seventeenth year the scholarship has been offered to York County Schools. More than 13,000 students have benefited from this program.
The Authority facilitates responsible solid waste management through an integrated strategy that emphasizes waste reduction, education, recycling and resource recovery. The Authority is the owner of the York County Resource Recovery Center in Manchester Township; and owns and operates a Yard Waste Transfer Facility, a Recyclable Materials Drop-off Center and an Education Center.
