How to Manage Household Garbage
In York County, some municipalities require residents to use a waste collection company designated by the municipality for garbage collection. This is because the municipality has elected to contract with a single hauler to serve all its residents with the goal of providing the most collection service options at the lowest possible price. Other municipalities permit residents to choose their own waste collection company. If you are unsure about what system your municipality offers, call your municipal office directly. Regardless of where you live in York County, or what type of system is in place for garbage collection, your household garbage is delivered to the York County Resource Recovery Center. The York County Resource Recovery Center is a waste-to-energy facility that uses the best available state-of-the-art waste management technology to convert municipal solid waste into a smaller volume of ash and produce electricity. In addition to the traditional "curbside pickup" method of managing your household waste, you can also deliver combustible household waste, and leaf and yard waste to the Resource Recovery Center yourself if you have more waste to dispose of than you can set out at one time for your regular waste collection. Click here to find out the cost to bring waste to the Resource Recovery Center. Call the Authority at 717-845-1066 if you have additional questions about your household garbage, or e-mail us at: webmaster@ycswa.com
