How to Manage Paint

Paint and paint-related products can be safely processed at the York County Resource Recovery Center (RRC).

PLEASE NOTE: Liquid paint and paint products pose potential impacts to the environment and to the safety of your waste hauler's employees. Because of this, many haulers prefer that paint and paint products be dried, hardened (paint hardeners can be purchased at hardware/home improvement stores) or mixed with an absorbent material such as shredded paper or kitty litter to minimize potential impacts.  Be sure to secure lids tightly and place in a closed garbage bag.  For guidance specific to your waste hauler's services regarding disposal of these products, contact your waste hauler directly.

Residents and non-manufacturing based businesses have the option to bring these items directly to the RRC for disposal.  Waste is accepted Monday through Friday from 8:00AM until 4:00PM and on Saturday from 8:00AM until noon.  Payment may be made in cash or by check. The "per ton" cost to dispose of waste at the Resource Recovery Center is $56 per ton.  The minimum fee to dispose of waste at the Resource Recovery Center is $10 (up to 340 pounds).  From 341 pounds the cost is assessed proportionately.  For example, the cost to dispose of 1/2 ton of waste is $28.

Paint from manufacturing operations may be residual or hazardous  waste as defined by the state and may require special approvals to process.  Contact the Authority for more information about how to manage residual waste.
