American Flag

REUSE:  American flags in good condition may be able to be donated or resold. An internet search such as “donate American flag York PA” will show organizations that accept flags for donation, or click here to view a list of York County donation/reuse outlets.  Reusable items can also be resold at garage sales, consignment stores and on internet sale platforms.

CERMONIAL DISPOSAL:  American flags can be disposed through ceremonies conducted by the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars.  For more information about this option, contact your local chapter of these organizations.  The United States Code, Title 4, Chapter 1 “The Flag” states:  “The flag, when it is in such condition that it is no longer a fitting emblem for display, should be destroyed in a dignified way, preferably by burning.”  For more information, click here.
