Meet Our Mascot

Buster is the official mascot of the York County Solid Waste Authority. He embodies the key elements of our integrated waste management system!

Buster’s green dragon scales signify respect for the environment and the Authority’s goal to manage waste in a way that minimizes environmental impact. This includes an emphasis on waste reduction, reuse, and recycling.
His fiery breath represents the controlled combustion technology used at the York County Resource Recovery Center (YCRRC). This technology reduces garbage (by 90%) to ash, which produces heat. That heat is used to boil water, creating steam, which is then used to operate a turbine and generator — producing enough electricity to power more than 20,000 homes!
The bolt of electricity on Buster’s wings signifies the energy that the YCRRC produces from York County waste.
