Ceiling Tiles
CAUTION: Ceiling tiles that contain the material asbestos are hazardous to human health and cannot be disposed in the regular trash or at the York County Resource Recovery Center (YCRRC). For more information about asbestos, please visit the US Environmental Protection Agency’s website here.
REUSE: Ceiling tiles in good usable condition may be able to be donated or resold. An internet search such as “donate ceiling tiles York PA” will show businesses that accept these materials for donation, or click here to view a list of York County donation/reuse outlets. Reusable items can also be resold at garage sales, consignment stores and on internet sale platforms.
RECYCLING: Ceiling tiles may be able to be recycled by certain businesses. Consult our C&D Reuse-Recycling Outlet List here or conduct an internet search such as “recycle ceiling tiles York PA” to pursue this option.
TRASH:
- Non-asbestos ceiling tiles can be disposed in the regular trash, but are limited to two 42-gallon contractor bags per disposal. Your waste hauler may have additional requirements for large item disposal. Contact them directly for more information.
- Non-asbestos ceiling tiles can be disposed at the York County Resource Recovery Center (YCRRC), but are limited to two 42-gallon contractor bags per disposal. Click here for information on the YCRRC rates and hours.
- Non-asbestos ceiling tiles that exceed the limits stated above can be disposed of at Modern Landfill. Click here for more information.
- Asbestos ceiling tiles must be disposed of at a landfill that accepts this material. Blueridge Landfill (click here), Conestoga Landfill (click here), Cumberland County Landfill (click here), and Frey Farm Landfill (click here) are local landfills that accept asbestos-containing materials.
