Fire Extinguisher

CAUTION:  Due to their pressurized contents, charged fire extinguishers cannot be disposed in the regular trash or at the York County Resource Recovery Center (YCRRC) because they may explode.  Additionally, fire extinguishers that were manufactured before 1970 may contain the toxic chemical carbon tetrachloride and should not be discharged.

REUSE:  New, unexpired fire extinguishers may be able to be donated or resold.  An internet search such as “donate fire extinguisher York PA” will show businesses that accept this material for donation, or click here to view a list of York County donation/reuse outlets. Reusable items can also be resold at garage sales, consignment stores and on internet sale platforms.
