Unwanted fitness and sports equipment that is in good working condition can usually be donated. An internet search such as “donate (bicycle, treadmill, weight set, etc.)” will show options of organizations that accept these items for donation.
Fitness and sports equipment that contains large amounts of metal can also be recycled at metal scrap businesses. An internet search such as “recycle (bicycle, weight set, etc.)” will show businesses that accept these items for recycling.
Fitness and sports equipment that is electronic can be brought to the York County Solid Waste Authority’s free Electronics Recycling Program (click here for more information).
Large fitness and sports items are accepted at the York County Resource Recovery Center (YCRRC) or can be placed at the curb during bulk waste disposal. (Your waste hauler may have additional requirements for bulk waste disposal. Contact them directly for further information). Click here for YCRRC rates and hours. Small fitness and sports items can be disposed of in your regular garbage. Bowling balls, slate pool tables and swing sets/basketball poles with concrete bases must be disposed of at Modern Landfill (717-246-2686).
