Unused, unopened potting soil may be able to be donated.  An internet search such as “donate potting soil York PA” will show businesses that accept this material for donation.

Used potting soil can be added to gardens or home compost.

Larger quantities of clean, uncontaminated soil can sometimes be reused as “clean fill”. For more information regarding clean fill, consult the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection’s (PA DEP) Management of Fill Policy at their website here.  For soil that meet’s the PA DEP’s clean fill standards, an internet search such as “clean fill York PA” may show businesses that accept this material.

Clean, uncontaminated soil can also be disposed of at Modern Landfill (717-246-2686).
