REUSE:
- Unused, unopened potting soil may be able to be donated or resold. An internet search such as “donate potting soil York PA” will show businesses that accept this material for donation, or click here to view a list of York County donation/reuse outlets. Reusable items can also be resold at garage sales, consignment stores and on internet sale platforms.
- Used potting soil can be added to gardens or home compost.
- Larger quantities of clean, uncontaminated soil can sometimes be reused as “clean fill”. For more information regarding clean fill, consult the PA DEP’s Management of Fill Policy at their website here. For soil that meet’s the PA DEP’s clean fill standards, an internet search such as “clean fill York PA” may show businesses that accept this material.
