Sand and stone in good usable condition may be able to be donated. An internet search such as “donate sand York PA” will show businesses that accept these materials for donation.
Sand and stone may be able to be recycled by certain businesses. Consult our C&D Reuse-Recycling Outlet List here or conduct an internet search such as “recycle stone York PA” to pursue this option.
Clean, uncontaminated sand and stone can sometimes be reused as “clean fill”. For more information regarding clean fill, consult the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection’s Management of Fill Policy at their website here. For sand and stone that meet’s the PA DEP’s clean fill standards, an internet search such as “clean fill York PA” may show businesses that accept this material as clean fill.
Sand and stone cannot be processed at the York County Resource Recovery Center (YCRRC) so it should not be disposed in the regular trash or brought to the YCRRC. Sand and stone must be disposed at Modern Landfill (717-246-2686).
