Electronics

CAUTION:  In Pennsylvania certain electronics (computers, computer peripherals, monitors and televisions) are restricted by law from being disposed in the trash due to environmental pollution hazards resulting from the toxic metals they contain.

REUSE:  Electronics in good working order can often be donated or resold.  An internet search such as “donate (computer, stereo, etc.) York PA” will show organizations that accept these items for donation, or click here to view a list of York County donation/reuse outlets.  Reusable items can also be resold at garage sales, consignment stores and on internet sale platforms.

RECYCLE:  Computers, computer peripherals (printers, keyboards, etc.), monitors and televisions, as well as many other different kinds of electronics, are accepted for recycling at YCSWA’s free Residential Electronics Recycling Program.  Click here for more information.  Some electronics may also be recyclable at metal salvage businesses.  An internet search such as “recycle (computer, stereo, etc.) York PA will show businesses that accept these items for recycling.

TRASH:  Electronics that are not computers, computer peripherals, monitors or TVs can also be disposed in the regular trash, but only after removing and safely managing any rechargeable batteries they may contain. Click here for more information about battery disposal.
