Flammable Materials
CAUTION: Materials such as fuels (gasoline, kerosene, butane etc.), solvents (degreasers, paint thinners, varnishes, etc.), products with a high acetone or alcohol content (nail polish remover, hand sanitizer, etc.), and mechanical greases/lubricants have the potential to catch fire easily and often also contain toxic chemicals. REUSE: Solvents and other flammable products in good usable condition may be able to be donated or resold. An internet search such as “donate (paint thinner, hand sanitizer, etc.) York PA” will show businesses that accept these materials for donation, or click here to view a list of York County donation/reuse outlets. Reusable items can also be resold at garage sales, consignment stores and on internet sale platforms.
RECYCLE: Fuels such as gasoline, kerosene, etc. are accepted at some York County businesses for recycling. For more information click here.
TRASH: Flammable liquids may be disposed at the York County Resource Recovery Center (YCRRC) in the Small Load Drop-off Area liquids hopper, subject to the YCRRC tipping fee, but are limited to one gallon per visit. For information on the YCRRC fees and hours, click here. Empty flammable liquid and fuel cans and containers are not recyclable in York County and should be disposed in the regular trash.
