Household Appliances
REUSE: Household appliances in good working condition can be donated or resold. An internet search such as “donate (air conditioner, ceiling fan, stove, etc.) York PA” will show organizations that accept these items for donation, or click here to view a list of York County donation/reuse outlets. Reusable items can also be resold at garage sales, consignment stores and on internet sale platforms.
RECYCLE:
- Local electricity providers often accept certain used appliances for recycling and sometimes offer free pick-up.
- Companies that sell appliances often accept used items at no cost when the customer is replacing them with new appliances.
- Household appliances that contain metal can be recycled at metal salvage businesses. An internet search such as “recycle (air conditioner, dishwasher, stove, etc.) York PA” will show businesses that accept these items for recycling.
- Small electric appliances that contain metal and do not contain refrigerants can be recycled at the York County Solid Waste Authority’s free Residential Electronics Recycling Program. For more information click here.
TRASH:
- Small household appliances that do not contain refrigerants can be disposed in the regular trash, but only after removing and safely disposing of any rechargeable batteries. For information on battery disposal, click here.
- Large appliances and appliances containing refrigerants may be able to be disposed curbside during large item pick-up. Contact your waste hauler directly for more information.
- Large appliances and appliances containing refrigerants can be disposed at the York County Resource Recovery Center (YCRRC). Click here for information on YCRRC fees and hours.
Food must be removed from freezers and refrigerators before disposing of these items.
