Medical Equipment

Many local non-profit agencies accept donations of medical equipment and often offer free pick-up. Your donation may also be tax deductible. An internet search such as “donate medical equipment York PA” will show organizations that accept these donations.

Medical equipment that is made of metal may be recyclable at metal salvage businesses.  An internet search such as “recycle metal crutches, walker, etc.” will show businesses that accept these items for recycling.

Certain medical devices may be recycled at the York County Solid Waste Authority’s free Residential Electronics Recycling Program.  Click here for more information.

Lightweight medical equipment may be disposed of in the regular trash. Heavy medical equipment, such as an electric wheelchair, may be disposed curbside during large item pick-up or at the York County Resource Recovery Center (YCRRC). Your waste hauler may have additional requirements for large item disposal.  Contact them directly for more information.  Click here for information on YCRRC rates and hours.

Electric wheelchair rechargeable batteries should be recycled at the facilities that sell them.
